Tourism in Moldova

The Republic of Moldova is a small country situated in the Southeastern Europe bordered by Romania on the west and Ukraine on the north – east and south, surrounded by two large rivers, the Dniester and the Prut.

The territory of modern day Moldova or sometimes called Basarabia has been populated since ancient times, country that represents a multinational state, with modern cities, beautiful landscapes, populated by charming and hospitable people.

Although it has a small area, the Republic of Moldova as a tourist destination has a great potential represented first of all by the geomorphologic aspect of its territory – an unusual diversity of landscape reservations or scenery and unique geological monuments of European and world value.

Moldova's rich soil and perfect temperate continental climate (with warm summers and mild winters) have made the country one of the most productive agricultural regions since ancient times, especially for the grape cultivation. If you look closer to the map of Europe you will see that the outline of the Republic of Moldova resembles to the shape of a brunch of grapes.
As a wine country, the Republic of Moldova offers visitors opportunities to choose their favourite itineraries: underground cellars and towns, wine storage facilities, wine processing factories, production processes of sparkling wine, divin, heres, balsam – wine product that continues to win gold and silver medals for at the prestigious internationals contests.

Located geographically at the crossroads of Latin, Slavic and other cultures, Moldova has enriched its own culture adopting and maintaining some of the traditions of its neighbors and of other influence sources, all this compose igniting dances, fascinating songs and amazing historical facts.
Another interesting fact is that on this tiny territory are concentrated many monuments of other cultures such as : Byzantine, Roman, Ottoman, Tatar, Hungarian, Polish – Lithuanian, Judaic, German, Old Russia etc.

As a multinational contry, the Republic of Moldova will let you pleasantly impressive with soviet culture and arhitecture of Transnistrien part, where is situated Fortress of Bender, where did stop Karl XII with his army, which is currently part of the Russian 14th Army.
Another impressive part is in southern part of Moldova - Gagauzia, living area in the native Gagauz and Bulgarians customs and traditions. There you will get acquainted with the history and culture of the Gagauz people, as well as Bulgarians and Gagauz traditions in southern Moldova.

The beauty and the generosity of this country have fascinated such people as : Orpheum, Pushkin, Eifel, Tolstoy, Chaliapin.
